The Riftbound World Championship, which Riot also calls Riftbound Worlds, is the highest tournament of Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game. It stands at the top of the competitive ladder that starts with tournaments in game stores, and Riot plans the first one for 2027. Riot's announcements up to October 2026 give no date, no city and no venue for it.
Riot has shared the year, the way to qualify and an outline of the event, and this article sets out what Riot has said and what it has left open.
When will the first Riftbound World Championship be held?
The first Riftbound World Championship is planned for 2027. Riot named that year in its overview of organized play on 28 July 2025. On 4 August 2026, in its August 2026 State of Play, Riot called the World Championship its capstone event of 2027 and the peak of the competitive ladder, and it wrote that the season ends there, with the crowning of a World Champion.
Riot has not named the month, the city or the venue. Its calendar of official events, last updated on 22 September 2026, runs until the release of The Reckoning on 30 April 2027 and holds no date for Worlds. The first big tournaments of 2027 that do have dates are the Riftbound Regionals in Madrid from 5 to 7 February 2027 and in Philadelphia from 12 to 14 February 2027, and the first Riftbound Continental in Dallas from 26 to 28 March 2027.
Riot has said it will come back with more information about Worlds, and in its announcement of the first premier events of 2027 on 23 September 2026 it promised a deeper look at its organized play of 2027 within a few months.
Who can play at the Riftbound World Championship?
Only invited players can play at the World Championship. Riot's overview of July 2025 listed a qualification as required, and Riot describes Worlds as the event where the best competitors of the year come together.
The first invitations are earned at the three Regional Championships of 2026. In its 2026 Regional Championship Info of 4 August 2026, Riot said that the Top 8 finishers of each Regional Championship earn an invitation to the first Riftbound World Championship.
- The European Regional Championship is scheduled for 6 to 8 November 2026 in Hall H of Messe Stuttgart, Germany.
- The North American Regional Championship is scheduled for 11 to 13 December 2026 at Convergence Fest in Las Vegas.
- The Chinese Regional Championship is a main event for 256 invited players that takes the place of the Radiance Major in China. Riot has not yet said how players qualify for it, and it promised to tell its Chinese players in a later update.
A seat at the European or the North American Regional Championship needs an invitation of its own. Those invitations come from a Top 64 finish at a Regional Qualifier, the last of which was held in Los Angeles from 25 to 27 September 2026, and from a top finish at a Showdown Series event. In France, the finalists of Le Rift Tour, a French circuit with its final at Paris Games Week from 22 to 25 October 2026, earn a place at the European Regional Championship in Stuttgart.
Riot has not said whether every place at Worlds comes from the Regional Championships of 2026. In its State of Play of August 2026 it promised to explain how players progress through the events of 2027 beyond direct qualifications, and it has not yet said whether the Riftbound Continentals of 2027, which take over from the Regional Championships, also lead to Worlds.
How will the Riftbound World Championship be played?
Riot has not published the rules of the event itself, but its overview of July 2025 gave an outline. Worlds is planned as a one-on-one Constructed tournament, where every player brings a deck built beforehand, with cash prizes and other prizes, played at the Professional level of the Tournament Rules. Riot made that plan before it reshaped the ladder for 2027, so the details can still change.
The Professional level is the strictest of the three levels in the Riftbound Tournament Rules (rule 205.4). Players are expected to know the Core Rules and the Tournament Rules completely, to keep the highest standard of behavior and to play with technical precision, and violations carry the strictest penalties.
The European and North American Regional Championships of 2026, one step below, show what a tournament of this size looks like. Both use the Standard format over three days: six Swiss rounds on Friday, six more on Saturday for the players with at least 12 match points, and then a single elimination Top 8 that ends with the final on Sunday. Each of the two has a prize pool of $50,000, with $10,000 for the winner. Riot has not said what the prize pool of Worlds will be or which sets will be legal there.
Is the Riftbound World Championship the same as League of Legends Worlds?
No. The League of Legends World Championship, also known as Worlds, is the yearly esports championship of the League of Legends video game. The Riftbound World Championship is a separate tournament for the card game, and its first edition is planned for 2027.
The two meet in a few Riftbound bundles and box sets. The Worlds Bundle 2025, with a launch price of $99.99, celebrated the League of Legends World Championship of 2025 with a Panda Teemo promo card and three oversized battlefield cards, one for each host city: Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu.
The Riftbound x T1 2025 Worlds Champion Collection honors T1, the team that won that championship. Each of its five players picked a champion unit, and the collection prints those five units with art of their own: Doran picked Ambessa, The Wolf, Oner Xin Zhao, Vigilant, Faker Galio, Indefatigable, Gumayusi Miss Fortune, Buccaneer and Keria Seraphine, Not Alone. The collection comes as a Signature Edition with a launch price of $360 and a Player Bundle at $70. The cards below are the regular printings of the five picks. Seraphine, Not Alone belongs to Radiance, the fifth set, with its release on 23 October 2026, and it is not legal in play before then.
How can you follow the road to the Riftbound World Championship?
The major events page lists the Regional Championships, the Showdown Series stops and the Pre-Rift weeks with their dates. Riot posts its own news about the big tournaments, Worlds included, in the organized play news on playriftbound.com.
Every road to Worlds starts with a deck you know well and a first competitive event. The Summoner Skirmish is the competitive tournament of the stores until the Radiance season ends, and the Riftbound Challenge Series takes its place as the first step of the ladder in 2027. Each step of the ladder of Riftbound tournaments asks more of its players, and the Tournament Rules grow stricter with it, up to the Professional level planned for Worlds.
