After Radiance comes Legacy, the sixth Riftbound set, dated 29 January 2027, with twelve new Legends and a design built for drafting. The Reckoning follows on 30 April 2027, and Riot plans two more sets for the second half of 2027, the first of them set in Bandle City.

Radiance is the fifth main set of Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game, with its release on 23 October 2026, and Riot has already named the sets that follow it. In an announcement on 3 August 2026, Riot set out the plan for 2027: Legacy in January, The Reckoning in April and two more sets in the third and fourth quarters of the year, with a new starter box in February.

This article goes through what Riot has said about each of these sets, from the new Legends of Legacy to the changes in booster packs and card wording, and what happens to Radiance once a newer set is out.

When does Legacy come out?

Legacy, the sixth main set of Riftbound, is dated 29 January 2027, a Friday, and its set code is LGC. Stores will hold Pre-Rift events with Legacy from 22 to 28 January 2027, the week before the release. In the preview season of Legacy, Riot will hold its first preview at Convergence Fest in Las Vegas in December 2026 and more previews in January 2027, on dates it has not announced yet.

Legacy is also a larger set than Radiance. By Riot's count, Legacy will have 239 cards, 93 of them showcase cards, against the 167 cards that Riot gives Radiance in the same announcement.

Which champions are in Legacy?

Legacy will bring twelve new Legends, and Riot has named eight of them: Ashe, Garen, Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma, Lux, Tryndamere and Vladimir. The other four were still to be revealed when Riot announced the set.

Garen and Lux already have a Legend each from the Proving Grounds box, Might of Demacia and Lady of Luminosity, so Legacy will give them a second one, as Unleashed did for Master Yi with Wuju Master. Most of the other champions are already in the game as champion units without a Legend of their own: Ashe, Focused, Tryndamere, Barbarian, Illaoi, Prophet of the Great Kraken, Karma, Channeler and Heimerdinger, Inventor. Since the chosen champion of a deck must carry the champion tag of its Legend, Legacy will let a deck choose Ashe, Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma or Tryndamere as its chosen champion for the first time. Vladimir is the one named champion who is not on a Riftbound card yet.

Riot describes Legacy as a set about representing the spirit of a region through your champion. Its regions of Runeterra are Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover and Zaun, the Freljord and Bilgewater, and the champions and mechanics of the set carry them.

Which products come with Legacy?

Legacy will come in booster packs and booster displays, a Vault and Pre-Rift kits. It also brings four Champion Decks, ready-made decks for Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux and Garen. Riot gave no launch prices for these products in its announcement.

Three weeks after Legacy, on 19 February 2027, comes Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition, a new starter box for two to four players. It holds four ready-to-play decks built around Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir and Illaoi, together with four oversized battlefields, four paper playmats, four score trackers and a rulebook. Riot announced it at a launch price of $40 and has said that it will hold no card that cannot also be pulled from booster packs.

How do booster packs and drafting change with Legacy?

From Legacy on, one Common slot in every booster pack becomes a slot that holds either a Legend or a battlefield, each about half the time. A Legacy pack therefore holds six Commons instead of seven. Riot made the change so that Legends stay easy to find for new players.

Riot also calls Legacy its first set built for Draft. Draft is already a format in the Tournament Rules, in which players pick cards one at a time from three booster packs each and build a deck of at least 20 cards from their picks. Legacy is designed for it with signpost cards, cards at lower rarities that show drafters which strategies the set supports. Riot will also add a new unit card, the Minion, to the Rune Kits it supplies to stores, so that players can fill out a draft deck with Minions the way they take basic runes.

Will the rules change with Legacy?

The rules documents and the wording on cards change with Legacy. In the Radiance patch notes of 9 October 2026, Riot announced a major update of the official rules for Legacy: the rules documents are reformatted from the ground up to make them easier to use as a reference for players and judges. Riot has said that this rewrite does not change how the mechanics of Riftbound work.

The cards change their wording as well. From Legacy on, a card that makes a token says Create instead of Play, and Riot has said that cards will say "When I enter" where older cards say "When you play me". A gray backer marks the targets of an ability, and an arrow separates the condition of a triggered ability from its effect.

What comes after Legacy?

The Reckoning, the seventh set, with the code REC, is dated 30 April 2027, with Pre-Rift events from 23 to 29 April 2027. Riot introduces it with the line "Awaken the Ancients" and the question of what happens when dormant giants wake up. By Riot's count it will have 264 cards, 67 of them showcase cards. It will bring nine new Legends, and five of them are named in the announcement: Aurelion Sol, Cho'Gath, Shyvana, Vayne and Zilean. Vayne, Hunter and Zilean, Time Mage are already in the game as champion units. The Reckoning will come in booster packs and displays, a Vault and Pre-Rift kits, with Champion Decks for Shyvana and Vayne.

The two sets after that have a place in the calendar but no name yet. The eighth set is planned for the third quarter of 2027 and is set in Bandle City, the home of the Yordles. When Riot announced it, the name of the set was not fixed and only concept art had been shown. The ninth set is planned for the fourth quarter of 2027, and Riot showed only placeholder art of it in August 2026. Together with Legacy and The Reckoning, they make four sets in 2027, the same rhythm of one new set in each quarter as in 2026.

What happens to Radiance and its events after Legacy comes out?

Radiance stays legal in Standard, the main Constructed format, after Legacy comes out. Riot's Rules Hub says that Riot intends to start rotation, when the oldest sets leave Standard, in 2028, so through 2027 every new set adds to Standard and none leaves it. The Tournament Rules of 9 October 2026 describe Standard as the most recent five to eight sets (rule 601.3.a) and already list Radiance in it, with its release date of 23 October 2026 (rule 601.3.c.6).

The organized play events change their names in 2027. Riot announced in its State of Play of August 2026 that the Riftbound Challenge Series will take over from Summoner Skirmish, Regional Qualifiers will become Riftbound Regionals, Regional Championships will become Continentals, and a monthly Nexus Cup will be added for stores. The first dates Riot has given for 2027, in its Premier Play announcement of 23 September 2026, are Riftbound Regionals in Madrid from 5 to 7 February 2027 and in Philadelphia from 12 to 14 February 2027, and a Continental in Dallas from 26 to 28 March 2027.

Every card revealed so far is in the card list, with Radiance on its own set page and the order of its reveals on the Radiance previews page. The Legends page and the champions page show which champions have a Legend today, and the major events page lists the dates of the coming seasons. A player planning a deck for the months before Legacy comes out will want to look at the cards of Radiance, the newest set until then, which holds nine Legends among its 167 cards.
