A Pre-Rift kit is the box of cards that each player gets at a Pre-Rift event of Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game. Pre-Rift is Riot's name for its prerelease. In the week before a new set comes out, game stores hold Sealed events where players build a deck on the spot from cards of the new set, and the kit holds those cards. Everything in it is the player's to keep.
Riot does not sell the kit in its own store. Stores receive kits for the events they register, so a seat at a Pre-Rift event is the way to get a kit of the new set.
What is inside a Pre-Rift kit?
A Pre-Rift kit holds a pack of 15 cards built around one champion of the new set, five booster packs of that set and one promo card. Riot calls the 15-card pack a champion pack, and UVS Games, which makes Riftbound and supplies the stores, calls it a mini-preconstructed deck. Riot said the champion packs of Unleashed, Vendetta and Radiance each hold a Legend, a rare champion unit, a battlefield and support cards for that champion.
| Part of the kit | Cards |
|---|---|
| Champion pack | 15 |
| Five booster packs of 14 cards | 70 |
| Promo card | 1 |
| All cards | 86 |
The champion pack in a kit is picked at random. In Radiance each of these 15-card kits holds the Legend, the champion unit, twelve support cards in the two domains of the Legend and one battlefield, and the nine Radiance pre-rift kits are listed card by card on their own page. The Unleashed kits came with packs for six champions, each built around a Legend: Virtuoso for Jhin, Piltover Enforcer for Vi, Wuju Master for Master Yi, Green Father for Ivern, Scorn of the Moon for Diana and Voidreaver for Kha'Zix. In the Vendetta kits, and in the Radiance kits of the events from 16 to 22 October 2026, the pack can hold any of the nine new Legends of the set.
The kit holds no full rune deck. Each booster pack has one slot for a rune or a token, and the store provides extra runes so that every player can build a rune deck of 12 in the domains of their deck.
How does a Pre-Rift kit change Sealed?
A Pre-Rift kit gives each player five booster packs and the champion pack, where ordinary Sealed under the Tournament Rules gives six booster packs. Six random packs do not promise a Legend, and the champion pack does, which makes a first game with a new set easier to start.
Otherwise the deck follows the Sealed rules: a main deck of at least 25 cards, as many copies of a card as the player opened and up to three domains. The Tournament Rules allow up to 45 minutes of deck building at a Pre-Rift, against the usual 30, since the cards are new to everyone.
Can you play the promo card in your Pre-Rift deck?
No, the promo card of a Pre-Rift kit stays out of the Sealed deck at the event. The kit of each set since Unleashed holds one champion unit of the new set as its promo, printed with a PRERELEASE banner and a P after its collector number.
- Unleashed: Ashe, Focused, a 5-Energy Order unit that banishes a card from an opponent's hand until they next hold a battlefield.
- Vendetta: Riven, Shattered, a 3-Energy Calm unit that deals 2 damage to an enemy unit for each Equipment attached to her when she attacks.
- Radiance: Heimerdinger, Academy Instructor, a 6-Energy Order unit that can turn the unit tokens you play into 3 Might Mechs while he is at a battlefield.
Riot said in its guides to the Unleashed, Vendetta and Radiance Pre-Rift events that the promo could not go into the Sealed deck, and the Tournament Rules let the head judge of a limited event keep promo cards out of the card pool. A regular copy of the same card opened in a booster pack can go into the deck. After the event, a promo plays like the regular card of the same name in any deck, so the promo Heimerdinger, Academy Instructor counts as a copy of the regular Heimerdinger, Academy Instructor in Constructed.
How do stores get Pre-Rift kits?
Stores get Pre-Rift kits in an event kit for 16 players, which holds 16 player kits and one booster display of the new set for prizes. The event kits of Unleashed, Vendetta and Radiance each have a suggested price of $480 in US dollars. A single player kit has no launch price, because Riot never sells it on its own. Sellers list kits of earlier sets on the marketplaces Cardmarket in Europe and TCGplayer in the United States and set the price themselves. Today the Unleashed kit sells for $44.18 and the Vendetta kit for $32.52.
A store has to register its Pre-Rift event in the Riftbound Gaming Network before a deadline, 29 August 2026 for Radiance, and orders the event kit from its distributor. UVS Games decides how many kits each store receives, and the number of kits sets the number of seats, so it pays to sign up early. The event finder shows the Pre-Rift events near you.
Which sets have a Pre-Rift kit?
Every main set since Spiritforged comes with Pre-Rift events and a kit. Origins, the first set, had release events instead.
- Spiritforged: The Pre-Rift events came in the week before the English release of 13 February 2026, and Riot said the kit held a Legend of the set and a champion unit with a promo stamp.
- Unleashed: The Pre-Rift events began on 1 May 2026, with champion packs for six champions and the promo Ashe, Focused.
- Vendetta: The Pre-Rift events began on 24 July 2026, with champion packs for the nine new Legends and the promo Riven, Shattered.
- Radiance: The Pre-Rift events are dated 16 to 22 October 2026, with champion packs for the nine new Legends and the promo Heimerdinger, Academy Instructor.
Riot has dated Pre-Rift events for Legacy from 22 to 28 January 2027 and for The Reckoning from 23 to 29 April 2027, the two sets that come after Radiance. Riot has not announced what the kits of those two sets hold.
Is a Pre-Rift kit a good way to start with a new set?
A Pre-Rift kit is one of the friendliest ways into a new set. Riot describes Pre-Rift events as casual and social, judges and other players help with the rules, and the champion pack hands every player a Legend to build around. The cards of a kit are a good start for a Constructed deck of 40, and single cards fill the gaps: they come from local game stores, from Cardmarket in Europe, from TCGplayer in the United States and from CardTrader on both sides of the Atlantic. A player who wants a deck that plays at once is better served by one of the ready-made decks.
The Radiance Pre-Rift kits page lists the nine Radiance pre-rift kits card by card, each with the cards it shares with another kit. The product pages of the Radiance, Vendetta and Unleashed Pre-Rift kits show what each one holds, and the Radiance card list shows the cards a Radiance kit can hold. The major events page lists each Pre-Rift week.
