Origins is the first set of Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game, and every later set builds on it. It came out in Simplified Chinese in mainland China first, and its English edition followed on 31 October 2025 in stores across North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania. Its 298 numbered cards brought the six domains, the runes, the battlefields and the keywords that Riftbound is still played with.
Origins came out together with the Proving Grounds starter box and three Champion Decks. Every later set adds to it without replacing it.
How many cards does Origins have, and of which kinds?
Origins has 298 numbered cards, from 001/298 to 298/298. Units make up almost half of them and spells a little more than a quarter.
| Kind of card | Cards |
|---|---|
| Champion units | 48 |
| Other units | 90 |
| Signature spells | 12 |
| Other spells | 72 |
| Gear | 30 |
| Battlefields | 24 |
| Legends | 12 |
| Basic runes | 6 |
| Unit tokens | 4 |
| Total | 298 |
The numbers follow a fixed order. Each of the six domains has a block of 41 cards, its basic rune included, from the Fury cards at 001 to 041 to the Order cards at 206 to 246. The Legends and their signature spells follow from 247 to 270, and the four unit tokens and the 24 battlefields, all of them colorless, close the set. Origins is also the largest main set so far, since the four main sets after it hold between 166 and 221 numbered cards.
Which champions and Legends are in Origins?
Origins brought 36 champions into Riftbound, and twelve of them have a Legend in the set: Kai'Sa, Volibear, Jinx, Darius, Ahri, Lee Sin, Yasuo, Leona, Teemo, Viktor, Miss Fortune and Sett. Each of these twelve comes with the same group of cards: a Legend at Rare, a Rare and an Epic champion unit, one in each of the Legend's two domains, and a signature spell at Epic.
Jinx shows the pattern. Her Legend, Loose Cannon, is Fury and Chaos and draws you a card at the start of your Beginning Phase when you hold one card or none. Jinx, Demolitionist is her Fury unit at Rare, Jinx, Rebel her Chaos unit at Epic, and Super Mega Death Rocket! her signature spell, which deals 5 to a unit.
The other 24 champions have a single champion unit each, all of them Rares, such as Caitlyn, Patrolling and Twisted Fate, Gambler. Five of them have a Legend in a later set: Draven and Fiora in Spiritforged, Vi in Unleashed, Shen in Vendetta and Ekko in Radiance, with its release on 23 October 2026.
The twelve Legends of Origins cover twelve of the fifteen possible pairs of domains, and the two domains of a Legend limit the cards its deck may hold. The three pairs that Origins left open, Fury with Calm, Mind with Body and Chaos with Order, got their first Legends in Vendetta.
Which keywords did Origins bring?
Origins brought 13 keywords, the ones the Core Rules list first in their keyword glossary, from rule 805 to rule 817. Among them are Action and Reaction, which decide when a card can be played, and Accelerate, Assault, Shield, Tank, Hidden, Legion and Deathknell. The other four are Deflect, Ganking, Temporary and Vision. Every later set adds keywords to these 13.
A few Origins cards show them at work. Kai'Sa, Survivor has Accelerate: you may pay 1 Energy and one Fury Power more to have her enter ready. Teemo, Strategist has Hidden: you pay one Power to hide him facedown at a battlefield you control, and from the next turn on you can play him from there without paying his cost. Sunlit Guardian has Shield, which gives it +1 Might while it defends, and Tank, so combat damage must be dealt to it first. Watchful Sentry has Deathknell and draws you a card when it dies.
Which rarities and special printings does Origins have?
Origins holds 88 Commons, among them the six basic runes and the four tokens, 84 Uncommons, among them all 24 battlefields, 84 Rares, among them all twelve Legends, and 42 Epics, among them the twelve signature spells. Every Rare and Epic in a booster pack is foil. On top of the 298 numbered cards come 54 showcase printings.
- Alternate art. The 24 champion units of the twelve Legend champions each have a printing that shows the champion in a League of Legends skin, such as Jinx, Rebel at 202a/298. The six basic runes have one each, such as the Fury Rune at 007a/298.
- Overnumbered. Each of the twelve Legends has a printing with new art and a number from 299/298 to 310/298, such as Loose Cannon at 301/298.
- Signed. Each overnumbered Legend also comes with the foil signature of its artist and a star after the number, such as the signed Loose Cannon, which sells for $1,355.35 today.
Riot's odds for Origins put an Epic in place of a Rare in about one pack in four, and a booster display of 24 packs holds about two alternate art cards. An overnumbered card turns up about once in three displays, and about one overnumbered card in ten is signed, so a signed card of any Legend turns up about once in 30 displays. Those rates are for all twelve Legends together, so the chance of one particular card is much lower, as the pull rates of a booster pack work out.
Which products did Origins come in?
Origins came in booster packs and in three Champion Decks. A booster pack holds 14 cards: seven Commons, three Uncommons, two foil cards of Rare or better, one foil card of any rarity and one rune or token. A pack had a launch price of $4.99, and a booster display of 24 packs a launch price of $119.99. Today a pack sells for $12.70 and a display for $221.90.
Each Champion Deck is a complete deck of 56 cards with one Origins booster pack, at a launch price of $19.99. Riot describes the Jinx deck, in Fury and Chaos, as aggressive with explosive spells, and the Viktor deck, in Mind and Order, as built to swarm the opponent. The Lee Sin deck, in Calm and Body, wins fights by buffing its units and protecting them with defensive spells. Today the Jinx deck sells for $33.02, the Viktor deck for $63.38 and the Lee Sin deck for $46.99.
The Proving Grounds starter box came out on the same day, with four decks for Annie, Garen, Lux and Master Yi. Most of their cards are Origins cards, and 24 others were made for the box with a code of their own, OGS, which together form the Proving Grounds set.
In November 2025, Riot said that demand for Origins had gone well past what it expected. Riot printed the set again, and new waves of Origins booster packs reached stores in the spring of 2026. Every later language edition of Riftbound started with Origins as well, the Korean one on 18 September 2026.
Can you still play Origins cards at tournaments?
Yes. The Tournament Rules of 9 October 2026 list Origins in Standard, the main Constructed format, together with the Proving Grounds cards and every set after them (rule 601.3.c). Cards that Riot has banned are the exceptions. The banned list of 18 September 2026 names seven cards and five battlefields, and ten of those twelve come from Origins. The five Origins cards are Ekko, Recurrent, Fight or Flight, Scrapheap, Stacked Deck and Stealthy Pursuer. All five battlefields come from Origins as well, among them Reaver's Row and Aspirant's Climb.
The Jinx Champion Deck holds three banned cards: Fight or Flight, Scrapheap and Reaver's Row. At casual events such as a Nexus Night, it may still be played with them, but only while it matches the box exactly (rule 601.2.d.2).
Some Origins cards are also played with a wording other than the printed one. On 28 October 2025, three days before the English release, Riot published errata for 31 cards, 29 of them from Origins and two from Proving Grounds, among them Zhonya's Hourglass. Riot said that restocks and translations of Origins were not planned to carry the new text, so a newer copy can still show the old wording. Under Riot's plan of 28 July 2025, rotation begins at the start of 2028, and Origins leaves Standard then, together with the four sets of 2026.
Every Origins card is in the Origins card list, and the pack opener lets you try opening Origins booster packs on the site. Spiritforged, the second set, came out in English on 13 February 2026 and holds 221 numbered cards.
