A Champion Deck is a ready-made deck of Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game, built around one champion and ready to play the moment the box is opened. Riot also calls them preconstructed decks, which players shorten to precons. The Legend, the runes, the battlefields and the 40 cards of the Main Deck are already chosen, and they follow the same deck rules as a tournament deck.
Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed came with seven Champion Decks between them, each with a launch price of $19.99. Riot has announced six more for the first two sets of 2027.
What comes in a Champion Deck box?
Every Champion Deck holds one complete deck of 56 cards and the things a new player needs to play it. Riot lists the same contents for all seven.
| Item | Number |
|---|---|
| Legend | 1 |
| Main Deck cards, the Chosen Champion included | 40 |
| Runes, six of each of the Legend's two domains | 12 |
| Battlefields with different names | 3 |
| Booster pack of the deck's set | 1 |
| Full-size paper playmat | 1 |
| Foldable paper deck box | 1 |
| Rules and deck-building booklet | 1 |
The booklet explains the rules and gives tips for building decks, and Riot has said that the booklets of the Origins decks also suggest stronger cards to upgrade them with. The booster pack is the first source of such cards. The Champion Decks of Spiritforged and Unleashed come with the tokens their cards make as well: the Rumble deck has seven Mech tokens, the Fiora deck has five Sand Soldier tokens for its Royal Guard, and the Vi deck has four double-faced tokens with a Bird on one side and Gold on the other.
How is a Champion Deck put together?
A Champion Deck is built the way Riot advises players to build their own: the Legend sets two domains and a plan, and the other cards serve that plan. Riot's deckbuilding primer takes the Lee Sin deck of Origins apart as its example. Its Legend, Blind Monk, is Calm and Body and buffs a friendly unit when you pay 1 Energy and exhaust it. Its Chosen Champion, Lee Sin, Centered, gives the other buffed friendly units at his battlefield +2 Might. Units such as Wizened Elder and Bilgewater Bully get better once they carry a buff, and spells such as Discipline help the deck win the fights it starts.
Most of the cards in a Champion Deck are Commons and Uncommons. The Main Deck of the Unleashed Champion Deck: Vi holds 20 Commons, 12 Uncommons, six Rares and two Epics. The Legend of every Champion Deck is a Rare, its three battlefields are Uncommons and its runes are basic runes. Every card in the seven decks is a regular card of a main set, the same card a booster pack can hold, so a Champion Deck has no cards of its own.
A Champion Deck is not limited to its own champion or its own set. The Spiritforged Champion Deck: Fiora plays Lucian, Merciless and Yone, Blademaster as ordinary units, because only the Chosen Champion has to match the Legend. It also holds Origins cards such as Pit Rookie.
How many champion cards does a Champion Deck hold?
The number depends on the set. The three Origins decks hold one unit of their champion and none of its signature cards. The decks of Spiritforged and Unleashed hold three or four units of their champion and one signature card.
- The Rumble deck holds two Rumble, Hotheaded, one Rumble, Scrapper and one copy of the signature spell Danger Zone.
- The Vex deck holds one Vex, Apathetic, one Vex, Cheerless, two Vex, Mocking and one copy of the signature unit Shadow.
A deck may hold up to three copies of a card with the same name and up to three signature cards (Core Rules 103.3.b and 103.3.d), so more copies of both are the usual first upgrade, and the three Origins decks gain the most from it. Single cards for an upgrade come from local game stores, from Cardmarket in Europe, from TCGplayer in the United States and from CardTrader on both sides of the Atlantic.
Which Champion Decks came out with Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed?
The first three sets came with seven Champion Decks, each named after its champion and led by that champion's Legend.
- Origins, 31 October 2025. The Jinx deck is Fury and Chaos, led by Loose Cannon, and plays aggressive units and explosive spells. The Viktor deck is Mind and Order, led by Herald of the Arcane, and swarms the board with units. The Lee Sin deck is Calm and Body, led by Blind Monk, and wins fights with buffed units.
- Spiritforged, 13 February 2026. The Fiora deck is Body and Order, led by Grand Duelist, and uses spells and equipment to make its units Mighty. The Rumble deck is Fury and Mind, led by Mechanized Menace, and is built around Mechs that make each other stronger.
- Unleashed, 8 May 2026. The Vi deck is Fury and Order, led by Piltover Enforcer, and sends big units into battle with Assault, because its Legend can ready a unit when you conquer after assigning 3 or more excess damage. The Vex deck is Calm and Chaos, led by Gloomist, and stuns enemy units, which stops them from dealing combat damage that turn.
Vendetta and Radiance have no Champion Decks. Each set has a Showdown box instead, with two complete decks made to face each other, which UVS Games, the company that manufactures Riftbound under license from Riot, calls very similar to the Champion Decks. The Vendetta box came out on 31 July 2026, the same day as the set, and the Radiance box has the same release day as Radiance, 23 October 2026.
Which Champion Decks has Riot announced for 2027?
Riot announced six new Champion Decks on 3 August 2026, together with the sets of 2027. Legacy, the sixth set, with its release on 29 January 2027, brings four: Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux and Garen. The Reckoning, the seventh set, with its release on 30 April 2027, brings two, for Shyvana and Vayne. The announcement gave no prices and no decklists for them. Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition, with its release on 19 February 2027, is a different product: a starter box of four decks for Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir and Illaoi.
Can you play a Champion Deck at a store event?
Yes. A Champion Deck has a Main Deck of exactly 40 cards, 12 runes and three battlefields with different names, which is what a Constructed event asks for (Tournament Rules 601.1.b, Core Rules 103.4.a, 103.5.c and 487.4.a). Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed are all legal in Standard (Tournament Rules 601.3.c). In its Radiance dates and details, UVS Games also names Modified Champion Deck, beside Constructed and Sealed, among the formats a store may pick for its weekly Nexus Night.
One deck needs a word of warning. The Origins Champion Deck: Jinx holds Fight or Flight, Scrapheap and Reaver's Row, which are on the banned list, and it is the only one of the seven that holds banned cards. At casual events such as Nexus Night the deck may keep them as long as it matches the box exactly, but once a single card changes, the banned cards have to go (Tournament Rules 601.2.d.2.a).
Is a Champion Deck a good first product?
For one player, a Champion Deck is the best way in. At $19.99 it had the lowest launch price of any box that holds a complete deck, and Riot's primer gives new players the same advice: start with a deck Riot built and change it card by card. Pick the champion you like most, because you will play that deck a lot. What a deck sells for in stores and on marketplaces can differ from its launch price, deck by deck. Today the Origins Lee Sin deck sells for $46.99, the Spiritforged Rumble deck for $25.21 and the Unleashed Vi deck for $15.60.
Two people who want to learn together are better served by a Showdown box or by Proving Grounds, which teaches the rules step by step. Which of the seven suits a beginner best depends on how its Legend plays, and which product to get first depends on who you play with and where.
Every Champion Deck is on the decks page card for card, where the Create copy button opens it in the deck builder, and the products guide shows each box with everything it holds.
Prices marked with a dot are live market prices.
