The basic game of Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game is the Duel, in which two players bring one deck each and play a single game to 8 points (Core Rules 487). Most products hold one deck or a stack of random cards, so two people who start together have to pick with care. One kind of product is made for exactly two players, and two others do the job nearly as well.
Prices in this article are launch prices, the prices in US dollars that Riot set when a product came out, except where a sentence says what a product sells for today.
Which product is made for exactly two players?
The Showdown Decks are the one Riftbound product made for exactly two players. Each box holds two complete decks built to face each other, two booster packs of their set, two full-size paper playmats, two foldable paper deck boxes and a rulebook, with a launch price of $34.99. Riot presents the box as an easy way to start playing with a friend.
Each deck follows the full deck rules: a Legend, a main deck of 40 cards, 12 runes and three battlefields with different names, 56 cards in all. Two players can play a Duel by the official rules the day they open the box, or a Match of up to three games with a new battlefield for every game (rule 488).
There are two Showdown boxes so far. The Vendetta box, released on 31 July 2026, sets Zed against Shen. The Radiance box, with its release on 23 October 2026, sets Seraphine against Evelynn, and Riot's overview of Radiance named 16 October 2026 as the day for its full decklists. The four Legends below lead them: Master of Shadows for Zed, Eye of Twilight for Shen, Starry-Eyed Songstress for Seraphine and Agony's Embrace for Evelynn.
When one of the two players is newer to card games, Shen is the easier side of the Vendetta box. His Legend, Eye of Twilight, simply gives a friendly unit Tank for the turn. Zed's Legend, Master of Shadows, first has to become Empowered, by banishing a card you own, before it lets you discard a card and draw one.
Is Proving Grounds a good box for two players?
Yes. Proving Grounds, the starter box, is marked for two to four players, so two players each get a deck and keep two more for later games. It holds four ready-made decks for Annie, Garen, Lux and Master Yi, four playmats, four acrylic champion figures to keep score with and a How to Play booklet that teaches the rules in the order a game needs them. It launched at $29.99, and the reprint of 2026 has a launch price of $39.99. The catch for later is that each Proving Grounds deck brings one battlefield, while the Core Rules ask each player for three in a Duel and in a Match (rules 487.4.a and 488.4.a) and the Tournament Rules ask for three in a Constructed event at a store (rule 402.1). A second edition, with its release on 19 February 2027, holds decks for Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir and Illaoi, and Riot has announced it at $40.
Can two Champion Decks do the same job?
Yes. A Champion Deck holds one complete deck of 56 cards with three battlefields, one booster pack, a paper playmat, a deck box and a rules booklet, at a launch price of $19.99. Two of them come to $39.98, which is $4.99 more than a Showdown box for the same number of decks, packs and playmats. What the pair gains is choice: each player picks the champion they like best from seven decks, Jinx, Viktor and Lee Sin from Origins, Fiora and Rumble from Spiritforged, and Vi and Vex from Unleashed. Riot has announced four more Champion Decks for Legacy, the sixth set, with its release on 29 January 2027: Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux and Garen.
Riot did not make the Champion Decks as pairs, but any two can face each other, and two decks with different plans teach the most. Piltover Enforcer, the Legend of Vi, lets you exhaust it to ready a unit when you conquer with 3 or more excess damage, so the Vi deck wants to attack. Gloomist, the Legend of Vex, lets you exhaust it to draw a card when you or an ally hold a battlefield, so the Vex deck wants to stay put. In Spiritforged, Grand Duelist, the Legend of Fiora, rewards units that become Mighty, with 5 Might or more, while Mechanized Menace, the Legend of Rumble, gives every Mech Shield.
Can two players start from booster packs instead?
Yes, though packs suit two players who already know the rules, because they build their decks from what they open. In Sealed, each player opens six booster packs and builds a deck of at least 25 main deck cards (Tournament Rules 602.4.a). A booster display holds 24 packs, enough for the pools of four players, and a Vault comes close to one pool: six booster packs of its set, 36 basic runes with six of each domain, tokens and a card storage box, at a launch price of $34.99. Two Vaults of the same set give each player a Sealed pool and the runes for it, and blank battlefields may stand in for any the packs do not give (602.3.d). Draft, the other format played from packs, is made for a table of about eight players.
What else do two players need?
Two players need very little beyond their decks, and the list of what a game of Riftbound needs is short. The ready-made boxes bring playmats, a die keeps the score, and the Core Rules say a token can be represented by anything (rule 181). Some products are no choice for two players at home: a Pre-Rift kit is handed to each player at a store's Pre-Rift event and is not sold on its own, and the Arcane Box Set holds six foil Legends for a collection rather than decks.
Which choice suits which pair of players?
The table compares the ready-made choices, counted for two players.
| Choice for two players | Decks | Battlefields in each deck | Booster packs | Launch price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One Showdown box | 2 | 3 | 2 | $34.99 |
| Two Champion Decks | 2 | 3 | 2 | $39.98 |
| Proving Grounds, first printing | 4 | 1 | 0 | $29.99 |
| Proving Grounds, reprint of 2026 | 4 | 1 | 0 | $39.99 |
Two people who have never played a trading card game do best with Proving Grounds. Two people who want decks by the full rules, perhaps for a store event later, do best with a Showdown box. Two people who each have a favorite champion do best with two Champion Decks. Two people who already know the rules get the most surprises from a Vault each and a game of Sealed.
Launch prices stay fixed, and a box whose print run is gone can sell above its launch price, as the article on why products sell above their launch price explains. Today the Vendetta Showdown Decks sell for $15.14, the Origins Champion Deck: Jinx for $33.02 and Proving Grounds for $53.13.
The products guide shows every product with what it holds, and the decks page lists the decks sold in a box card for card. Two players who pick a Showdown box can read what each of its decks does in the article on Showdown Decks, and two players who want a game at their own table can read how to set it up and which house habits help in the article on playing at home with a friend.
